If you're a street-art lover, a graffiti artist for a day or a lifetime, or a Parisian looking for a place to relax, there's a spot dedicated to urban art for you. Nestled in a former SNCF hangar, here'sAerosol.
What's on the outside? Walls adorned with ephemeral works of art, free walls that other artists will come and cover up later, as street art comes and goes. Opposite these walls are food-trucks where you can enjoy a meal in the midst of these works, on tables personalized by street-artists. And to say the least, there's something for everyone!
On the menu are hot dogs from Richard's Hot Dog, burgers from Nolita Street, pizzas from Airstream Pizza and more original specialities from Munchies Food Truck, offering Egyptian and Japanese cuisine, Greek specialities from Nykos food truck and poutine from Pout's Truck. And if the heat is on, you can even cool off with an ice cream from La Tropicale. Behind you can see a pétanque court. Further on, skateboard ramps. A designer market emerges in the middle of it all. Art, food, music - everything you need to be happy!
What's inside? A bar, open to the outside. On the walls, yet more works of art, destined to be replaced by others as soon as inspiration strikes whoever wishes to express themselves there. An elevated DJ booth overlooks a dancefloor where you can sometimes get your groove on, equipped with old-school roller skates. The program includes house, electro, rap, hip-hop andAfrobeat- everything you need to have a good time with family and friends alike.
Freedom is the watchword here, because that's howAerosol was conceived. Freedom, yes, but of what? Well, the freedom to express yourself on the walls, the freedom to express yourself on the ground, the freedom to bring your picnic and enjoy thefood court without necessarily putting your hand in your pocket. Freedom to experience this place as you wish.
ButAerosol doesn't stop there. Between now and the end of August, a second room will open up to reveal a gigantic museum of Street Art and Graffiti, created in collaboration with Maquis-Art. Works by big names such as Invader, Shepard Fairey, JonOne, Banksy, Dondi White and Crash will be on display. Fun and futuristic activities will be on offer, including a virtual reality experience and a digital wall where you can graffiti, armed with a spray can. Artists can also take advantage of the Maquis-Art boutique to replenish their stocks of spray cans.
Last but not least, the aim of this ephemeral spot is to ensure that the 2,000 sq. m. of quay-terrace is entirely covered by works of art. So grab your cans and brushes, folks!
