Paris abounds in beautiful addresses and iconic monuments, well-known the world over. But there are secret places in the capital that remain little-known even to Parisians themselves. Sometimes we discover them as we stroll along the streets. Other times, it's curiosity that prompts us to cross a passageway and discover these famous Parisian secrets.
And sometimes the most obvious places hide these famous little-known spots. A case in point is this secret garden nestling in the heart of the capital, near Paris City Hall. Go to Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, formerly Place de la Grève. While the crowds gather at the fountains, head for the quays of the Seine. Once you've reached the end of the building, turn to face theHôtel de Ville. You'll notice an entrance on the right, which passers-by pass unnoticed. Take this side path to discover the Jardin des combattants de la Nueve.
Running along the side of theHôtel de Ville, this secret garden transports us far from the hustle and bustle of Paris. It's a bubble of calm nestled in one of the capital's most hyperactive districts. Open at weekends and on public holidays, this spot features a henhouse, rabbit cages, a flower garden with rose bushes and a small play area, all with a view of the south façade of the Hôtel de Ville. For a quiet lunch break, a quiet read in the shade or the sun, or simply a spot of chilling out, this garden is a must-see!
