As you stroll through the Jardin du Luxembourg, you may not have missed it: if you entered from the side of the RER stop and the Panthéon, on the central water feature, children are having fun pushing and pulling small wooden sailboats, prettily named "Les Voiliers du Luxembourg".
Since the second half of the 19th century, Luxembourg's little sailing ships have made their appearance in the garden's basin: hand-built, they've remained here ever since, sailing through thick and thin - especially when the weather's fine - in the hands of children. For half an hour, budding captains can learn to navigate on a small scale, using a wooden stick to steer their ship.
