The famous Paris Half Marathon made its grand return this Sunday, March 3, 2024! The determined participants set off from the Place de la Bastille, crossing the capital over a distance of almost 21km! An exceptional feat for many of the runners, and an opportunity to break records for the professional athletes. Cheered on by hundreds of early-morning supporters, the runners skirted the Seine, before running into the Bois de Vincennes.
No fewer than 40,000 courageous athletes set out to conquer the Paris half-marathon on Sunday. It was Bernard Koech, the experienced runner from Kenya, who took victory on March 3 on the legendary Place de la Bastille. With a time of 1h00'45", Koech put in a fine performance, although he did not surpass the record set the previous year at the 2023 edition of this event.
Shortly afterwards, France's Medhi Frère crossed the finish line in 1h01'15", finishing an admirable second after a hard-fought battle with Koech. At 27, Frère confirmed his excellent physical condition following his remarkable time in the Valencia marathon, qualifying him for the Paris Olympics the following summer.
Cocorico again, with Emmanuel Levisse taking fourth place (1h02'11"), closely followed by Donovan Christien (1h02'28") and Florian Carvalho (1h04'53"). Hassan Chahdi chose to reduce his pace after the halfway mark.
On the women's side, victory went to Joan Chelimo Melly, of Romanian-Kenyan origin, with a time of 1h06'58". She beat Véronica Loleo (1h07'45") and Jesphine Jepleting (1h09"11").
Among the French runners, Fadouwa Ledhem came fourth with a time of 1h09'59", followed by Manon Trapp (1h10'56") and Anaïs Quemener (1h11'54"), fifth and sixth respectively.
The Paris 2024 Half Marathon thus highlighted remarkable performances by both men and women, underlining the sportsmanship and competitiveness of the participating athletes.
