WHO sets the cat amongst the pigeons and tries to cause reactions, especially in Latin American countries, urging them to “take control” over the Covid-19 epidemic.
As a matter of fact, even though the situation seems to improve in most European countries, it is not the case everywhere across the globe. Americas (the United-States and South America) have been facing a resurgence of new infections for the past days. For the first time since the pandemic broke out, Latin America has exceeded Europe in terms of infections this Friday July 3, 2020 with over 2.7 million people infected.
The World Health Organization emergencies director Michel Ryan urged the world “to wake up” and start fighting. He says “People need to wake up. The data is not lying. The situation on the ground is not lying” before adding: “it is never too late in an epidemic to take control”.
He also says: “There are good economic reasons that the countries need to bring their economies back online," but urges the different leaders to wake up: "It's understandable, but you can't ignore the problem either. The problem will not magically go away."
