Invited on BMFTV after his weekly press conference, Health Minister Olivier Véran has announced caregivers may be asked to give up on their All Saints Vacations in order to help hospitals as the second wave seems to gave arrived for good in France.
The health minister stated: “Yes, I do agree with you, it’s terrible. This is why we call caregivers, for those who have been less enlisted to come as they did for the first wave, to reinforce hospitals, where hospitals see a wave of sick coming, especially in nursing homes”.
A measure that is no surprise since in early October, the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris sent a note explaining that because of the “service continuity constraints related to the epidemic context”, caregivers’ days off could be cancelled.
Olivier Véran added: “caregivers are exhausted, some have been able to rest more than others this summer, others less than some, we have to save them. Our caregivers are not interchangeable, we have no stocks expecting them that will be fresh and available”. Note this measure is not mandatory but on a voluntary basis.
