As many French hope things would get back to normal very soon, epidemiologist Didier Pittet assumes the Covid-19 epidemic is not to be under control before the summer 2022. He says that “we will really be able to make an assessment of the situation in the summer 2022, and everything will be much easier”. This is what he said this February 18, 2021 on France Inter.

Tweet reads: “Didier Pittet considers a final assessment to be made in the summer 2022: ‘For 2 more months, we’ll have to get through [the winter] and be able to make a first assessment in the summer [2021] (…) There will be more variants in the Fall, it will be no normal Fal’l”.
Yet, the head of the National Independent Mission on the Assessment of the Covid-19 Crisis Managing in France has also said that “we’ll return to the theater” and people will reunite with “other social activities” before the deadline.
As for the coming months, Pittet shares Arnaud Fontanet’s mind and thinks the next couple of months will be tricky because “it’s still the winter and we know respiratory viruses like that period” he explained. Then will come the “vaccination campaign” and officials will be able to “make a first assessment by the beginning of summer” he went on. But he also thinks “then it will be Fall, there will probably be other variants, perhaps we’ll need other vaccines, we’ll have to spend another Fall that will be no normal Fall” the epidemiologist concluded.
