In this sense, President Macron confirmed that Europe"is in the process of catching up", stressing that we"are a bit of a diesel, we can't talk too much about these engines these days, but it's starting slowly and it's going a long way". To date, health authorities have recorded that 9.3% of the European population has received a first dose of the vaccine.
Above all, Emmanuel Macron compared the situation of the European vaccination campaign with that of the United States, believing that"theyhad merit as early as the summer of 2020, they said 'we're pulling out all the stops and going for it'". As a result, the latter"had more vaccines (...) more ambition than us", according to Macron. On the other hand, the President conceded that"we (Europeans) haven't been fast enough, strong enough on this", admitting that"we thought it would take time for the vaccine to take off". Macron also regretted that we had "no doubt dreamt less of the stars than some" on this subject. "We were wrong to lack ambition, I was going to say madness, to say 'it's possible, let's go for it'. We're too rational," emphasized the head of state.
