Faced with the escalation of the Covid-19 epidemic in France, Germany is to take a tougher stand. Is the country about to make restrictions harder as well as to list France as high-risk area? This is what intended German chancellor Angela Merkel this Friday March 26, 2021. As part of a press brief amid an EU summit, the head of state said “while we see such a high incidence it is simply a necessity... a practically automatic process”.
Furthermore, the chancellor states “it is not related here to a political decision but when we see the evolution of the incidence rate -- as is the case here -- exceed the threshold of 200 for a long time, that requires a classification as a zone of high risk”. According to German daily FAZ, the call will be made this Friday by the Robert Koch Institute, the German equivalent of the French Santé Publique France agency and the regional health agencies.
Consequently, if France is considered as a “zone of high risk” by Germany, a whole series of restrictions will be instated. Starting with the return of compulsory negative test to enter the German country; as well as quarantining Germany for the next 10 days. Strengthening border controls is also one of the many measures likely to come into force starting this Saturday between the two EU countries.
