As the Delta variant urges some countries to make new health measures, this August 9, Pfizer/BioNTech laboratories head said there is no need “yet” to adapt the vaccine to new coronavirus variants.

Since the vaccination campaign starter, the outbreak of new variants resistant to the serum has been worrying scientists. Although the Delta variant is hitting many countries across the world, others are thoroughly watched, such as the Lambda variant or the Colombian variant recently spotted in Belgium.

But Pfizer/BioNTech laboratories head Ugur Sahin intended to sound reassuring as for the effectiveness of the vaccine against the different mutations reported so far, claiming there was no need “yet” to adapt the vaccine to new coronavirus variants.

It is quite possible that in the next six to 12 months, further variants will emerge and that would require adaptation of the vaccine”, he claimed this Monday August 9, 2021 at a press brief.

Furthermore, “we have a good understanding that the booster vaccine with the parental strain is completely sufficient”, he added. A third dose of serum in some countries have been recommended already for a part of their population.
