Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel considers a fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccine will be needed in the Fall of 2022. Statements coming as the vaccination campaign for the third dose started less than a month ago in France, and time periods between doses have been cut down to four months.
“I still believe we’re going to need boosters in the fall of ’22 and forward”, Moderna CEO claimed. He thinks effects of the third dose will decrease over time and require the injection of a new booster. He even added it would be surprising to see effects last over time.
In Israel, authorities have started to give the fourth dose to the most fragile inhabitants. As for the general population, the vaccine is currently halted, waiting for primary studies about Omicron. As for France, Jean Castex announced this Thursday January 6 the government was waiting for the green light from the health authorities to start injecting this new booster shot.
Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla also said a few days ago a fourth dose will be needed in the short run. Both businessmen consider elderly people, people with comorbidities or sicknesses might need a yearly booster.
