Specialists recently predicted the UK variant was to be dominant in France by early March. Predictions seem to come true: as of February 25, 2021, Jean Castex said the UK variant was found in about half of new coronavirus cases. For the record, the coronavirus variant is said to be 70% more transmissible than the historic strain.
According to the latest epidemiologic report by Santé Publique France - as of March 5, 2021 - the UK variant is now found in 59% of new cases reported in France. It even dominates in over 57 departments including Île-de-France. As for the other variants, the South African and Brazilian strains are found in 6% of cases. This number reaches 10% in 9 mainland departments.
