To combat precariousness and inequality at school, the government plans to redeploy the "free breakfast at school" scheme.

The figures speak for themselves. On average, 3.4 pupils per class, from CP to CM2, arrive at school hungry. There are many reasons for this (lack of time or appetite, stress, economic reasons...), but the facts are there, hindering children's learning. So, the government is determined to combat this precariousness and inequality at school. How is it going to do this? By redeploying the "free breakfast at school" scheme. This is what the executive announced to AFP.

Launched two years ago, but slowed down due to the health crisis, this measure is part of the poverty plan announced in 2018 by the President of the Republic. Until now, this scheme concerned"priority territories". Thus, according to the offices of the Ministries of Health and National Education, around 153,000 pupils were able to benefit in 2019-2020.

This Tuesday, March 16, 2021, ministers Olivier Véran and Jean-Michel Blanquer are due to visit a school in the Val-d'Oise, Île-de-France region, to announce a massive redeployment of this "free breakfast at school" plan.

According to Le Figaro, the executive wishes to extend the scope of schools eligible for this famous scheme. From now on, the government will use theSocial Positioning Indicator (SPI) to determine which schools will benefit from the plan. This tool provides a quantitative measure of students' social situation. The aim? To reach " more rural or orphan schools ", as one member of the government told AFP.
