Comedy kingpin Gad Elmaleh is to become the new owner of Chez Michou, the legendary cabaret on Rue des Martyrs in the 9th arrondissement. According to BFM TV sources, his aim is to create a new comedy venue .
Founded in 1956 by Michou, whose real name was Michel Catty, Le Cabaret Michou became a veritable institution, embodying the spirit of celebration and freedom. Artists imitated stars such as Dalida, Édith Piaf and Céline Dion, in whimsical performances. Michou hosted the cabaret until his death in 2020. The venue, now in receivership, has reportedly been bought by Gad Elmaleh .

No wonder the comedian wants to turn it into a temple of humor! Having started out with mini-sketches and small Parisian stages, Gad Elmaleh has often supported up-and-coming comedians such as Kev Adams and Roman Frayssinet. According to Gad Elmaleh's communications team, Cabaret Michou, which has been closed since the end of June 2024, should be given a new lease of life, while retaining a certain authenticity.
The new venue is not expected to retain its former name, although no official name has yet been announced. Gad Elmaleh is not the only comedian to set up his own stand-up comedy venue, with the likes of Kev Adams, Fary and Baptiste Lecaplain also having created their own.
For fans of the Chouchou actor, his new show Lui-Mêmeruns from January 28 to February 15, 2025 at the Dôme de Paris. It's an opportunity to wait for the opening of the new temple of humor that will replace Chez Michou .
