A free museum near you, open for after-hours? Absolutely, thanks to the Night of Museums, a major cultural event that invites the public to explore museums and historic sites in a lively, festive atmosphere after dark. This Saturday, May 13, 2023, marks the 18th edition of this must-attend event.
Once again this year, the French Museum of Photography, founded by Jean and André Fage, opens its doors free of charge for the evening. Originally an art museum based in Bièvres, it has since been taken over by the Essonne Departmental Council, which is committed to preserving and showcasing the collection through the construction of a new museum!
Within its collections, more than 25,000 objects including "Drawing Machines," vintage cameras, laboratory equipment, and a vast archive of one million photographs by amateurs, professionals, and artists. It also houses a unique technical library and documentary collection. The story of photography unfolds before your eyes in this captivating exhibition, sure to delight photography enthusiasts.
Take advantage of the Night of Museums to explore this venue, which offers free guided tours starting early in the afternoon and continuing until 9 p.m.
