But that's not all, since the music festival at the Swedish Institute is also an opportunity to celebrate Midsommar, the famous ancestral tradition that marks the beginning of summer. Every year, on Midsommar, the Swedes erect a floral flagpole around which they dance and sing, wearing a wreath of flowers. On June 21, 2024, the garden of the Swedish Institute in Paris will host traditional Midsommar dances and songs, before the famous concert.

Fête de la musique 2024 at the Swedish Institute, the program

  • Midsommar (Two dance sessions, each lasting 20-30 minutes)
  • Concerts by Jelly Crystal and Alice Boman from 7:30 p.m.

  • Midsommar + contemporary music concert
    Friday, June 21, 2024 - 17:30 ⤏ 22:00

Like every year, the Swedish Institute's garden is the place to be to celebrate summer and music! On the program: traditional Midsommar songs and dances, followed by a concert by Jelly Crystal.

Midsommar is an age-old summer tradition celebrated in meadows, parks and gardens with family, friends and neighbors. People deck themselves out in flowers and colors and dance around a large floral flagpole, sometimes in frogs' skins, never in fear of ridicule. For the second year in a row, singer Eskelina lends herself to the game and does us the honor of guiding our steps and our voices.

From 7.30pm, it's time for Jelly Crystal, glam rocker and soul singer with a baritone voice. His early songs were inspired by art-rock, but in recent years he has broadened his register to include funk, soul and R'n'B, all united under his alt-pop banner. The names he has worked with testify to his taste and the esteem in which he is held by the Swedish music scene: Alice Boman, Stella Explorer, Seinabo Sey, Mr. Tophat, and many others. His debut album, Freak Show, was released in 2021 and earned him the title of "Composer of the Year" at the Swedish Manifest gala. At the end of 2023, he released the critically acclaimed album Prince.

"A singer with real star power! - The Line of Best Fit

"If you're a David Bowie fan, be sure to listen to Jelly Crystal" - Wonderland

    "A star-studded debut" - UNCUT

As soon as the gates open and throughout the evening, the FIKA café will be selling drinks and Swedish specialities as well as their alternatives (for pickled herring phobics).

Next up is Alice Boman, a singer-songwriter with a soft, melancholy vibe. Her latest album, The Space Between, is a reflection on silence and space, with a broader palette than her debut, Dream On. Her clear voice mingles with shimmering guitars ("Space"), accordion ("Night and Day"), music-box effects ("On and On") and muted brass ("Soon"). The album is a journey, tracing Boman's progression from fear ("Honey", "Maybe") to the "place of tenderness" she finally reaches ("Space"). Boman's music shone in the series Transparent (Amazon), Wanderlust (HBO) and 13 Reasons Why (Netflix).
