The Fête de la musique returns to Paris and everywhere else in the Île-de-France region this Friday, June 21, 2024! The good news is that this year, this popular and festive event falls on a Friday. So there's plenty of time for a nice long evening of music before the weekend!
The country's first Fête de la Musique took place in 1982. The event was the brainchild of Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, Maurice Fleuret and Christian Dupavillon, architect-scenographer and cabinet member. Their idea? To launch a major popular event enabling all musicians to play and make a name for themselves during a festive evening.
And it's been a huge success for over 40 years now! Every June 21, budding musicians and singers take to the streets to bring the sound of live music to life. Rock, rap, pop, electro, reggae, classical, zouk, funk, metal, French variety, blues and jazz are all on the bill...
Live music can be heard in every district of Paris during the Fête de la musique, but it's not the only one... There's plenty to discover elsewhere in the Île-de-France region, including in Sceaux. This commune in the Hauts-de-Seine department, located 5 km south of Paris, is best known for its sublime Domaine départemental. A classic 17th-century park, the Domaine départemental de Sceaux welcomes many regular visitors and curious onlookers every year. The park is also famous for its cherry trees, which blossom every spring.
