Our review of Miss Peregrine and the Peculiar Children (2016):
After his last few rather disappointing films - Big Eyes and Alice in Wonderland - Tim Burton is back with a new opus worthy of his talent: Miss Peregrine and the Peculiar Children (Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children), adapted from a best-selling fantasy novel by Ransom Riggs.
Jacob - an awkward teenager leading an ordinary life - finds his grandfather dead in strange circumstances. From clues to coincidences, he decides to go to the home for "special children" where his grandfather grew up to find out what happened. There, he discovers a mysterious world of strange creatures - monsters and freaks - who make him realize how special he is.
Sometimes funny, sometimes frightening, Burton 's legendary world opens up to the viewer from the very first minutes of the film, never to close again.
With all his trademark poetry and whimsy, Tim Burton delivers a fable of loops, with fantastic actors (including the beautiful Eva Green ) and a charming journey out of time. If our director, with his inimitable touch, once again praises strangeness, he also speaks of the importance of the imaginary in confronting fears and becoming an adult - inviting us on the most wonderful of journeys.
