France's first 4DX cinema has just opened its doors in Paris. Following in the footsteps of Bangkok, Los Angeles and London, this new technology that plunges viewers right into the heart of the film is coming to the French capital from March 15, 2017. To discover it, head to the Pathé La Villette ideally located in the brand-new Vill'up shopping center, to enjoy a cinematic experience that will shake up your senses!
Behind Pathé La Villette's 4DX technology lies equipment that combines seat movement with sensory effects such as wind, rain, smoke and smells, all to immerse the viewer in the heart of the action.
To create this sense of immersion, the 110 seats move up and down, left and right, back and forth, creating vibrating and tickling effects. During a chase scene, for example, the seats recline to simulate suspension in mid-air, and blasts of air are projected to evoke the speed of the action.
All films presented in 4DX will be new releases. Coming to screens now: " Logan " and " Kong: Skull Island ", and " Beauty and the Beast " on March 22. Next up: " Ghost in the Shell " on March 29, " Fast & Furious 8 " on April 12, " Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 " on April 26 and " Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge " on May 24.
In short, a great line-up in store! We can't wait to find out all about it!
We were lucky enough to be able to test this new technology on the trailers for 4 of the upcoming films to be released in 4DX, namely Beauty and the Beast, Kong: Skull Island, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 and Fast & Furious 8, as well as on 8 minutes of the Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 1 film in 3D.
The sensations are truly incredible: we are propelled into the film, we literally move, jump and dance with the characters, especially in Guardians of the Galaxy, we feel the breath of King Kong as if he were only a few meters away. We feel the bumps and clashes of Fast and Furious. We're chased through a snowstorm by hungry wolves in Beauty and the Beast...
For the less adventurous among you, the experience is nothing like a roller coaster, and the seats don't move continuously throughout the film. The aim is not to make viewers return their breakfast, but to allow them to enjoy a good action movie while discovering new sensations.
The various seat movements represent just 7 of the 20 special effects we may encounter during this experience. Other effects include a complete immersion of the room in fog, a windstorm or even a snowstorm, a warm sensation on the back of the neck, a tickling sensation behind the legs, the release of a particular odor, lightning and many more... For added comfort, spectators can choose to activate or deactivate the water projection effects at any time.
Films in 4DX are accessible from 4 years of age or 1m in height, and some seats have safety belts to restrain the youngest spectators. The price of the 4DX room is the price of the usual admission ticket +6€.
