What if the Beatles had never existed? This is the starting point of Danny Boyle's latest feature film, broadcast this Sunday, August 13, at 10:25 pm on W9.
After"Trainspotting","The Beach","Slumdog Millionaire", "127 Hours" and, more recently,"Steve Jobs", the British director is back with"Yesterday". This dramatic musical comedy depicts a parallel world where the Beatles never existed. After a coma, Jack Malik(Himesh Patel), who has always dreamed of a career in music, plays the Beatles' Yesterday on his guitar. He soon realizes that he's the only one who knows about the famous Liverpool band. Jack decides to try his luck and launches his musical career by performing the Beatles' legendary songs...
The cast includes Himesh Patel, seen in the Damned series, as well as Lily James(Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Le Cercle littéraire de Guernesey) and Ana de Armas(Blade Runner 2049). The icing on the cake is that Ed Sheeran is also part of the cast!
Review
Yesterday is a magnificent film! A feel-good movie par excellence, it's a real peach! It makes you want to sing and dance. It'sa beautiful tribute to the Beatles and all they brought to music .
In the background, a lovely romance between the naive Himesh Patel and the charming Lily James. The film is also very funny! Particularly the scenes in which the hero discovers everything that disappeared from the world after the blackout.
In short, Yesterday is a fine story, well acted. There's never a dull moment, and the film leaves you feeling completely refreshed.
