The 76th Emmy Awards 2024 ceremony was held in Los Angeles on September 15, bringing together the biggest stars of the small screen to reward the best in television. The big winner of the evening was FX, thanks to its two flagship series: The Bear and Shōgun, which largely dominated the comedy and drama categories.

The Emmy Awards are one of the most prestigious American ceremonies to recognize excellence in the television industry. Established in 1949, the awards recognize the best series, actors, directors and writers, covering a wide range of categories including drama, comedy and mini-series. The Emmy Awards are often considered the TV equivalent of the Oscars for cinema, highlighting productions broadcast on traditional channels or streaming platforms such as Netflix, HBO and FX.

The event is divided into two main ceremonies: the Primetime Emmy Awards, which recognize programs broadcast during the evening, and the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which honor technical and artistic achievements. Every year, the stars of the small screen gather in Los Angeles to celebrate television's most outstanding creations. These awards strongly influence future productions and the impact of series on the public.

Shōgun 's coronation was historic, with the drama series winning a total of 18 awards, a record for a first season. Among the major honors, Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai received the awards for Best Actor and Best Actress in a Drama Series respectively. The series also picked up the coveted award for Best Drama Series. This historical saga, set in feudal Japan, won over audiences and critics alike, not least for its narrative depth and outstanding performances.

On the comedy front, The Bear continues to shine. After scooping 10 statuettes last year, the series raised its record again to 11 awards, including Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Jeremy Allen White and Best Supporting Actor for Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Colon-Zayas. However, the series was unable to repeat its triumph in the Best Comedy category, where victory went to Hacks, a series broadcast on Max.
