It's another comedy with an absurd pitch, just the way the film's actors like it. Whether it's François Damiens(Les Amateurs), William Lebghil(Yves) or Laura Felpin(Le Flambeau), each of these actors has a taste for wacky films. And all three seem to enjoy themselves in front of Cécilia Rouaud's camera.
Our verdict
For a popular French comedy, Les Complices is an audacious film. Its hero, played by François Damiens, is an aging hitman, prone to bouts of arthritis and hematophobia, who must learn to live a new life as new, slightly intrusive neighbors(Laura Felpin and William Lebghil) make their appearance. But of course, nothing goes right, and the young couple find themselves embroiled in their neighbor's sordid troubles.
What's immediately striking about this film is the comic power of its characters. Whether in their writing or in the actors' performances, they all have immense potential, and this is well exploited. The same is true of the fine secondary roles, including a delightful Bruno Podalydès as François Damiens' colleague in crime, and Vanessa Paradis as his ex-wife.
But above all, the film's star is of course William Lebghil, whose comic genius has been proven time and again. Currently starring in Grand Paris, the actor, who won an award for this role at Alpe d'Huez, is absolutely brilliant in Les Complices. He plays a happy idiot, convinced of the goodness of absolutely everyone, who is constantly stepped on because he's too nice. Like Louis de Funès, or Jim Carrey, to name the most famous, William Lebghil is one of those rare actors capable of eliciting hilarity with a simple look or smile. This gives Cécilia Rouaud 's film a very special flavor.
Max (François Damiens), a ruthless hitman, discovers he has a problem: he now faints at the slightest drop of blood. With his future in the profession in jeopardy, he'll have to retrain. But it's not so simple when his only professional skill is killing people... He enlists the help of a couple of young neighbors, Stéphanie (Laura Felpin) and Karim (William Lebghil), who have no idea who they're dealing with. Despite himself, Max becomes attached to the young couple, until his past catches up with him...
