During the César evening, the awards given to short films are often of little interest to the audience. And we understand them, it is often difficult to get hold of the winners of the César awards for the best fiction, documentary or animation short film. La Vie sexuelle de Mamie, a 13-minute cartoon directed by Urska Djukic, received the César for the best animated short film this Friday, February 24. The film is available on Arte.tv, the free streaming platform of Arte. You can discover it here until March 30. The director of the short film is a Slovenian woman who puts into images the testimony of many women of the beginning of the 20th century in the country. A difficult and unknown experience in France, which makes La Vie sexuelle de Mamie an important film to discover at all ages.
A journey through the youth and intimate memories of a grandmother illustrates the status of Slovenian women during the first part of the 20th century. The strict doctrine of the Catholic Church imposed social conventions, under which women were easily perceived as mere objects dedicated to the satisfaction of their husband's sexual needs.
