Between the price of tickets and the choice of films, many French people have abandoned cinemas in favor of streaming platforms, especially the younger ones. MK2 cinemas will be trying to bring them back, by showing Youtube videos on the big screen! Six exceptional screenings of 2-hour cult videos or previews, with the participation of content creators themselves.
The cinema chain, in partnership with Youtube, is thus creating its own special ciné-club, believing that the two industries are complementary. YouTube France Managing Director Justine Ryst also mentioned in a press release the presence on the platform of"creators and cinephile critics" with a strong following,"key players in the promotion of cinephilia and the discovery of works".
The program for these screenings includes popular videos that have marked the history of Youtube France, previews of content"linked to cinematographic creation and compatible with the big screen", as well as Q&A sessions, autograph signings and giant quizzes. Six events are currently planned between now and the end of 2024, while we wait to see if the concept catches on. Just the thing to get the younger generation back into the cinema!
On February 8, 2024, we'll start with a live show featuring the exceptional presence of Joyca and Géraldine Nakache, live at the mk2 Bibliothèque cinema in Paris and broadcast simultaneously to partner cinemas.
