Kids and mischief are a pair that often go together like a house on fire. And in Juniors, 14-year-olds Jordan and Patrick are the perpetrators of a folly that turns their whole lives upside down. A family comedy to be discovered in cinemas on July 26.
When their PS4 breaks down, the two college boys come up with a supposedly foolproof plan: Jordan, with a recently shaved head, pretends to be ill with cancer in order to launch a fund-raising campaign and raise enough money to "cure" him - in reality, their plan is to buy a PS5. However, rumors of the boy's illness spread throughout the college, bringing them unprecedented popularity, but more importantly, a whole host of problems.
A frank comedy, it's amusing to see how the two boys' lie takes on gargantuan proportions, all without Jordan's mother (played by Vanessa Paradis) noticing. The consequences of this enormous lie get crazier and crazier. First, the two boys take advantage of the situation to skip a few classes and get extra fries at the canteen, then things get out of hand when the other boys at school have the brilliant idea of all shaving their heads in tribute to Jordan. A funny reaction that gives rise to a group of skinheads, the best idea in the film.
However, Juniors' script ends up spreading itself too thinly. And inevitably, a family comedy has a moral ending, which is regrettable. We would have preferred the film to have taken its delirium to its logical conclusion and gone further, but the filmmaker opted for wisdom.
