She was an American artist who left her mark on the history of music, but also more widely on American society through her many battles, whether against war or in favor of civil rights with Martin Luther King. Joan Baez gave her very last concert in Paris (at theOlympia) in 2019, in front of an audience of fans overwhelmed by the voice of this great artist, and by her many ballads that still resonate in our heads.
Despite her retirement from the stage, the woman many dubbed " the Queen of Folk " is back in the news with the release of a music documentary. Called " Joan Baez I Am A Noise ", the film is directed by Miri Navasky, Maeve O'Boyle and Karen O'Connor, and co-produced by Patti Smith. For 113 minutes, the documentary blends footage of Joan Baez from her farewell tour in 2019 with personal archives, tracing the artist's life over the course of her 60-year career, her heartbreaking romance with the young Bob Dylan and her many struggles.
For, in addition to being an artist in her own right, Joan Baez is also a committed singer. For example, she has not hesitated to take part in numerous events: civil rights marches on Washington, anti-segregation demonstrations in Alabama... So many battles that make Joan Baez such an endearing and respected artist, a true example for many other artists to follow.
" Neither a conventional biopic nor a traditional concert film, this immersive documentary travels back in time, following Joan on her final tour and delving into her extraordinary archives, including home movies, diaries, artwork, therapy tapes and newly discovered audio recordings," states the synopsis.
