Parisian cinemas haven't said their last word. Even though two legendary cinemas have closed their doors - Le Bretagne and Gaumont Marignan, after 62 and 90 years of existence respectively - the owners are not discouraged, and three new cinemas are due to open in 2024.
First up, in spring 2024, visitors will have to head to La Villette to rediscover La Géode, a spherical cinema that closed in 2018 before being taken over by Gaumont-Pathé for refurbishment. It is the first of the new cinemas to open in 2024.
A few weeks later, it will be Pathé Palace 's turn to open its doors. The new premium cinema in the Pathé stable is currently being built on the site of the former Gaumont Opéra, which closed in 2019. Located on Boulevard des Capucins, close to the Opéra Garnier, the new cinema is due to open in June 2024, with the aim of becoming the capital's finest cinema.
Finally, at the end of 2024, or even the very beginning of 2025, residents of the 7th arrondissement will be able to rediscover La Pagode, a cinema located on the rue de Babylone, closed since 2015 for renovations. The restoration of this unique establishment is progressing apace.
