Daft Punk fans are in for a treat! The unmissable duo, who bowed out in 2021 after 28 years together, announced some good news via their social networks. No reformation in sight, but a cinema screening of their cult film, " Interstella 5555 " .
Released in 2003 and directed by Kazuhisa Takenouchi, this Franco-Japanese animated musical film combines the full score of Daft Punk's album"Discovery" with the graphics of Leiji Matsumoto, the manga master behind Albator and winner of the 1972 K dansha Manga Award. The story is written by Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, the two members of Daft Punk, and by Cédric Hervet.
The pitch for " Interstella 5555 " ? The film tells the story of a group of abducted extraterrestrial musicians who arrive on Earth and become real stars.
More than 20 years after its theatrical release, " Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem ", the full name of this animated feature, returns to the cinema for a unique evening. Daft Punk announced this on its social networks. To be discovered in a remastered version, " Interstella 5555 " will be shown exclusively in cinemas worldwide on Thursday, December 12, 2024.
As Daft Punk points out on its website, this one-off screening of " Interstella 5555 " will be followed by a selection of the duo's iconic videos by such renowned directors as Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Seb Janiak, Roman Coppola and Warren Fu.
