La Semaine de la Critique has just revealed its official selection for the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, just a few days after the announcement of the Official Competition and the Un Certain Regard selection. Join us from May 13 to 24, 2025, to discover the 64th edition of this parallel competition.
Semaine de la Critique general delegate Ava Cahen has revealed the 11 first and second features to be selected. Added to this are 13 short films, 10 of which are in competition and 3 in special screenings. 4 short films will also be screened at the invitation of the Morelia International Film Festival (Mexico).
This year, Spanish filmmaker, screenwriter and producer Rodrigo Sorogoyen will preside over the 64th Semaine de la Critique jury. He will be joined by Moroccan journalist Jihane Bougrine, French-Canadian cinematographer Josée Deshaies, Indonesian producer Yulia Evina Bhara and Oscar-winning British actor Daniel Kaluuya.
Together, they will screen all the selected films and award the Grand Prix AMI Paris de la Semaine de la Critique to the best feature film, the Prix French Touch du Jury, the Prix Fondation Louis Roederer de la Révélation to the best actress, and the Prix Découverte Leitz Ciné to the best short film.
Every year, La Semaine de la Critique "unequivocally demonstrates its support for and belief in the younger generation of filmmakers. A parallel section that accepts only short films and first and second features allows us to launch and strengthen the careers of young filmmakers in a unique way. If there weren't spaces like this, we'd continue to reward, screen and give a voice only to consolidated trajectories, and miss out on the concerns and forms that are emerging."
"On the poster for the 64th Semaine de la Critique, one of the heroines of Les Reines du drame raises a hand to the sky, in a gesture of defiance and an invitation to ecstasy. A vibrant tribute to spectacle in all its forms, Alexis Langlois' film is a declaration of love to cinema, music and celebration," explains the Semaine de la Critique team.
