After a long wait, it's finally here... The Pokemon Company has announced, via a Pokemon Presents event broadcast on June 24, 2020, the forthcoming release of a "new" video game based around the Japanese franchise: Pokemon Unite, on Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android. An opus that has been in the works for over a year, created in collaboration with Chinese studio Tencent, and more specifically TiMi Studios (a subsidiary of Tencent, editor's note), consisting of a kind of"MOBA" (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) where teams of five players will compete in real-time battles.
The idea behind the game? As our Gamekult colleagues explain,"each team must score as many points as possible by battling wild Pokémon and opponents", while conquering five"strategic bases". Throughout the battles, Pokemon level up and can evolve, just like in any other opus in the saga. A game of strategy where cooperation is the key to victory.
The presence of several small monsters has been confirmed... Players will be able to train and advance Pikachu, Salamèche, Carapuce, Bulbizarre, Zeroara, Dracaufeu, Crabaraque, Amphinobi, Blancoton, Lucario, Mr. Mime, Grodoudou, Absol, Ectoplasma, Machoc, Ronflex, Spectrum, Mélofée, Riolu, Flambusard and many others. The game comes a week after three other games from The Pokemon Company: Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Smile and Pokemon Café Mix.
The free-to-play game is due for release on Nintendo Switch on July 21, 2021. The mobile version of the game is scheduled for September of the same year, but the precise date is not yet known. In the trailer released this July 15, Pokemon Unite reveals an offer you can't refuse: if you log into the game before August 31, you'll get the fabulous Pokémon Zeraora for free.
Good news if you want to play the game as soon as it's released, but would prefer to continue the adventure on mobile: the game has a crossplay and cross-save system. In concrete terms, crossplay allows you to play with other people who are not on the same support as you, and cross-save is used to keep your progress between the console and mobile versions.
