Echo 42: we tested the audio experience in Montparnasse that puts your psychic talents to the test

Become a medium for an immersive experience... That's what Sculpteurs de Rêves is offering you with its new adventure, Echo 42, to be discovered in Montparnasse from now on. A journey between psychological thriller and haunting... We've tested it, we'll tell you about it!

Ready to plunge into the world of spirits? Echo 42, an immersive audio experience that plunges you into the heart of an abandoned Paris of the 1940s, has been waiting for you at the Gare Montparnasse in a new version of its adventure since January 18, 2025. Presented by Sculpteurs de Rêves, in collaboration with IO Studio, this adventure invites you to unravel the mystery of a collective disappearance, in a 300 m² set reused from a previous creation. Participants, in groups of eight, are equipped with headphones and transported into a sound universe that challenges their perceptions.

The synopsis takes you into an unsolved mystery: in 1942, a group of people disappeared overnight, after one of them found a mysterious artifact. Decades later, workmen trying to renovate the site are falling into dementia, claiming paranormal phenomena. The mediums, embodied by the participants, must explore these deserted alleys, abandoned cafés and subways, all the while being guided by distant voices. Each player perceives unique sounds, depending on his or her psychic powers and progress in the story.

Sculpteurs de Rêves, always on the lookout for new immersive experiences, is collaborating here with IO Studio for Echo 42, to highlight the potential of spatialized audio. According to David Sabaté, the experience's scriptwriter: "We wanted to send out a strong, meaningful signal by recycling sets from a past creation and offering an experience at the crossroads of the escape game, the role-playing game and spatialized audio". This fusion of cinema sets, immersive audio and complex puzzles guarantees a terrifying and innovative experience.

Our review of Echo 42:

An immersive experience that the editors were able to test... When it comes to immersion, you've got it! The headset comes to life each time you approach a particular object, offering you the chance to hear different people in different discussions, depending on the group. And it's by combining what each group hears that you can solve the riddles proposed along the way. It's all very fluid and well thought-out. In short, we love it.

On the decor front, don't think you're evolving in nothing at all, quite the contrary: here, Sculpteurs de Rêves ingeniously reuses the decor of one of its previous experiences to offer you this adventure, which fits in perfectly. Note that you begin the experience around a table, in a "séance" style, with the aim of explaining how to proceed. Again, this is well thought-out and well integrated into the adventure.

It's a bit of a trial-and-error affair at first, and the flood of data can be quite disorientating for players as to what to use and what not, but you soon get the hang of it, and the particularly dynamic experience promises some great mystical and occult adventures. We can't recommend this experience enough! All that remains is for you to enter the spirit world.
