Giant animals, talking catfish and monsters from another world set the tone for this game of tradition and superstition. The trailer for South of Midnight reveals a rich, mystical universe, with many secrets to discover. According to these first images, the game seems to be divided between combat, exploration and learning ancient magical powers.
Our review of South of Midnight:
Oh what a lovely game, for Xbox Series owners! South of Midnight is a success on all counts! Starting with a really nice, polished art direction, between drawings and stop motion (on the introductory video). It's a great way to get started that will appeal to fans of the genre.
As for the gameplay, it's also a very good point. The game is extremely fluid, and the mechanics, simple and accessible enough, are devilishly effective. And the further you get into the game, the denser the gameplay becomes, offering more attacks against enemies, but above all new approaches to defeating them. Our only regret is that the overall mechanics are rather uniform, with phases of exploration and combat, a running phase and a boss, before moving on to the next chapter.
But the overall experience remains very good, thanks to a particularly well-written and often heartfelt story, and a great soundtrack, somewhere between jazz and soul. An artistically complete and straight-to-the-point piece of software. And that's what we like! Ideal for fans of adventure games, but also for all those with a passion for the tales and legends of the bayou. A must-have for everyone!
