Ahhhh, the Batignolles district! With its market, good butchers, numerous greengrocers, not to mention cheesemongers and bakers, Batignolles is a historic district of Paris that loves its local stores, so it's hard to break the chain and buy your pasta and household products in the supermarket!
With this in mind, Damien Di Cicco decided to open a Day by Day franchise, to provide an intermediate solution to supermarkets and their standardized products. In premises on rue des moines, Damier Di Cicco has realized his childhood dream with the opening of this bulk grocery store, offering 750 products without packaging. This is the 11th opening for Day by Day, and the first in Paris!
Inside the small store, the concept is explained: here, all products are paid for by weight. While we're used to doing this with sweets in candy shops, or olives prepared at the market, here the concept works with 750 products, from pasta and spices to tea, and even wine and olive oil!
Yes, at Day by Day, you can buy a dozen wines by the kilo, simply by paying for a glass bottle or bringing in your own empty, cleaned bottle (which will then be weighed). As a result, you choose how much you buy, you only buy what you're going to use, you avoid multiple packaging (from the store to the consumer, but also from the producer to Day by Day) and you recreate a relationship of trust with a grocer who knows the products he's selling (at Day by Day, not two brands of pasta or washing powder, but good products!).
When we point out the use of bulk products in certain organic stores, the manager explains that Day by Day does not advocate French organic products. Only 25% of the product stock is organic and 50% of the products are French, reminding us that "good cashew nuts come from Burkina-Faso! And on the budget side, Day by Day advocates "the right product, the right price (which feeds everyone), and the right impact on the environment"!
So, why not give it a try?
