Paname Bouquine is the festival that celebrates the bouquinistes of the quays of the Seine, veritable pillars of Parisian culture, on the weekend of July 1 and 2, 2023. It's an opportunity to celebrate culture and literature, and to share the knowledge and love of a profession that is an integral part of the capital's landscape, around the emblematic river. Just before Paris Plages, Paris Pages takes over!
This festival, organized by Camille Goudeau and Elena Carrera, aims to support bookbinders' bid to be included in Unesco's intangible cultural heritage. "We want to bring Parisians back to the quays of the Seine, to show that we are part of everyday life in the city and in the neighborhood. In short, we want to break the postcard and tourist image that bookshops may have today" , they tell Actualitté.
The program for this year's event includes authors signing their works on the Quai de l'Hôtel de Ville, alongside booksellers offering literary activities and workshops for young and old alike. There'll also be a guided tour of the banks of the Seine (booking required), an incredible treasure hunt, concerts and other exciting literature-related activities!
Come and meet the book artists and historians who bring our Parisian quays to life!
