Every year since 2013, tattoo fans were expected in Paris 19th arrondissement for the Mondial du Tatouage. After being out of the capital city for 13 years, famous tattoo artist Tin-Tin (Tin-Tin Tatouages, Paris) decided to make this iconic event devoted to tattoo rise from its ashes. And success did not take long to arrive. In 2017, the Mondial du Tatouage brought over 30,000 passionate people, curious and tattoo lovers together. But, the Covid-19 epidemic has been there, forcing the famous tattoo convention in Paris to cancel the past two editions. This November 1, 2021, Tin-Tin has taken the floor on Facebook to share the sad news. Issuing a press release, the show organizer announced the end of the Mondial du Tatouage because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“It is with great sadness that I announce the end of the Mondial du Tatouage. Our company in charge of organizing the event did not survive the Covid-19 pandemic. We were thankfully able to refund the pre-sales, but with no income, and having already invested in two conventions that never happened, we could not keep things going”, Tin-Tin announced on Facebook.
Bad news for the many tattoo fans who were used to come every year to the Grande Halle de la Villette. Although some of them just admired pieces made live by tattoo artists on site, others did not hesitate to take the plunge and leave with a wonderful memory drawn to life on their skin. Last but not least, others were here for the shows, displays and contests held on the occasion.
But Tin-Tin has not said his last word and promises he will “do everything [he] can to rebuild an event dedicated to tattoo art in the French capital […] to live again and enjoy cultural events, like we once did”, he stated this November 1st on Facebook.
