Roland-Garros will mix clay and green in 2019! The sport facility based in Porte d’Auteuil reopens for the edition 2019 of the French Open taking place every year between its walls. A unique occasion to discover the new policy of the Fédération Française de Tennis [French Tennis Federation] about the most prestigious national tournament, very committed to sustainable development and ecology. The goal? Giving a privileged place to nature again and highlight the respect of the biodiversity within the very stadium.
A vital issue for this legendary tournament expecting to show the best way that clay and green are complementary colors. First, the first task is to add plants to the sport complex. To develop the place of nature in the city and get some air, the tournament organizers wish to settle their installations in their exceptional environment, the Bois de Boulogne.
Like the new Court Simonne-Matthieu – genuine green ecosystem never seen before in the world, inserted between the four greenhouses of the Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil – the brand-new complex represents the meeting between spontaneous nature – the Bois de Boulogne’s – with worked materials and a resolutely natural design. The best example of this perfect match is materialized with the new seats adorning the surrounding walls, made of white wood and made in France.
Moreover, not less than 123 trees, fruit plantations, honey production and even the installation of green walls are scheduled by 2020. In the same time, the main alley of the stadium turns into a large and modern green avenue. The Place des Mousquetaires also becomes a wide green esplanade covering about one acre and where visitors can move more easily and enjoy a nice and relaxing moment. The place will be open all year long like a Parisian square.
