Lysander, Hermia, Demetrius, Helena and Puck… All these characters from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, English masterwork written by William Shakespeare, won’t tell you their secrets but will dance them for you… Because yes, Jean-Christophe Maillot – who is the choreographer and head of Monte-Carlo Ballet Company since 1993, a company including about twenty nationalities is now famous worldwide – takes this play to make it a choreographed item. And it’s at Paris Théâtre National de Chaillot that it will set up from this coming June 8 with this beautiful adaptation.
This choreographic variation of Shakespeare’s play evolves around 3 universes: Athenians’, Fairies’ and Artisans’. According to award-winning choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot, these three universes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream match the three stages of the dancer’s maturity: dynamic and paced, chaotic and physical, then fully interpreted and theatrical.
So, in this spectacular show, the story is danced at a rapid and poetic tempo by talented dancers who are very good actors as well.
