The Moon continues to fascinate scientists and ordinary people alike, as a mysterious satellite accompanying the Earth. On November 9, 2024, from 2pm to midnight, theInstitut de Physique du Globe de Paris (Paris Institute of Globe Physics ) of the Université Paris Cité will be opening its doors to the public to find out all there is to know about this celestial body, with lectures, exhibitions, film screenings and an orchestra. A day open to all , free of charge, bringing together enthusiasts from diverse disciplines, from law to genetics, around the lunar theme.
The Moon is explored in all its facets, with exhibitions of model lunar seismometers, meteorites and lunar rocks, remote telescope observations for astronomy enthusiasts, and lectures on lunar geopolitics, seismology and ethnology, with activities adapted to the youngest visitors.
Not to be missed is the screening of "Voyage dans la Lune", the very first science-fiction film in cinema history, 14 minutes long (incredible for its time!), made in 1902 by Georges Méliès. Commented by the director's great-granddaughter, Anne-Marie Malthête-Quévrain, the film will also be accompanied by a musical performance by the PhiloGaïa orchestra.
