Comme il vous plaira: Shakeaspeare's play at the Théâtre Hébertot

Considered one of England's greatest poets and playwrights, William Shakespeare is best known for his tragedies. However, some of the author's comedies still enjoy great success today, such as Comme il vous plaira, written in 1599, which runs at the Théâtre Hébertot from September 18 to December 31, 2024.

William Shakespeare 'sAs You Like It recounts the adventures of Rosalinde, banished from court by her usurping uncle, Duke Frederick. She flees to the Forest of Arden disguised as a man, accompanied by her cousin Celia and the jester Touchstone. In the forest, Rosalinde meets Orlando, the man she's fallen in love with, unaware of her disguise. Through misunderstandings and witty exchanges, the Duke's entire entourage finds itself in the middle of the Ardennes forest, within the four walls of the grand Théâtre Hébertot.

In this version of Comme il vous plaira, adapted by Pierre Alain Leleu and directed by Léna Bréban, the audience finds itself immersed in an "enchanted" forest setting, in an almost musical comedy. Nine actors and actresses, including the talented Barbara Schulz, bring Shakespeare 's splendid text to the Théâtre Hébertot stage.

The adaptation of Shakespeare' s Comme il vous plaira was a resounding success in 2022, even winning four Molières that same year: Best Private Show, Best Direction for Léna Bréban, Best Adaptation for Barbara Schulz, Best Supporting Actress for Ariane Mourier and the nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Jean-Paul Bordes.
