The Birgit Ensemble is back with Les Suppliques, a new production that examines and retraces key events in Europe from 1945 to the present day. To be seen at the Théâtre de la Tempête, from January 31 to February 16, 2025, the play blends archives and fiction to give a voice to the victims of the Holocaust in France.
Les Suppliques du Brigit Ensemble takes us back to a dark period in French history, between 1941 and 1943, during the Occupation, when hundreds of Jewish families sent poignant letters to the Vichy authorities, hoping to obtain news of missing loved ones or to escape persecution.
Thanks to the work of historian Laurent Joly, Julie Bertin and Jade Herbulot, founder of the Brigit Ensemble company, discovered this deeply moving documentary material, which bears direct witness to the tragedies of the Holocaust in France. Through six of these letters, transposed onto the stage in Les Suppliques, they reveal the imaginary world of victims who still placed their trust in the French state.
