Shepard Fairey, a.k.a. Obey: "Swan Song" exhibition at Galerie Itinerrance in Paris, extensions

Asstreet-art enthusiasts know, Paris's 13th arrondissement is a veritable playground for many artists. This autumn, the Itinerrance gallery, which is behind the very fine Boulevard Paris 13 project in partnership with the 13th arrondissement town hall, is back in the news with the latest exhibition by Shepard Fairey.

Called " Swan Song ", this installation is the American street artist's third exhibition at Galerie Itinerrance. The complicity and loyalty between the Parisian gallery and Shepard Fairey, aka Obey, has been confirmed over the years.

Their first collaboration dates back to 2016. That year, the South Carolina-born contemporary artist took over the 13th arrondissement gallery to present his work as part of the"Earth Crisis" exhibition. In 2019, Shepard Fairey returns to Galerie Itinerrance to unveil new works in a retrospective entitled"Facing The Giant: 3 decades of dissent".

In 2024, Obey returns to this contemporary art gallery specializing in urban art for his new solo show,"Swan Song". To be discovered free of charge, this new installation is once again committed and militant. " The works in my exhibition 'Swan Song' address today's multiple threats, in the hope that art will generate a collective appeal powerful enough to inspire a change of course, rather than simply serving as a swan song to our collective tragedy," explains Shepard Fairey in a press release issued by Galerie Itinerrance.

Initially scheduled to run from June 20 to July 26, 2024, the exhibition has been extended this autumn. Visit the Itinerrance gallery until Saturday, October 12, 2024 to discover it!

Shepard Fairey began his career by placing " André the Giant has a Posse " stickers on the streets, depicting French wrestler André Roussimoff. Some of his works have become benchmarks, such as this portrait of Barack Obama accompanied by the word " hope ".

Shepard Fairey has also created a real link with France. We remember in particular the three-dimensional ephemeral installation"Earth Crisis" under the Eiffel Tower, during COP21 in Paris, or his fresco depicting the symbolic figure of Marianne on a tricolor background, created following the tragic attacks of November 13, 2015.
