A universe between art and geography... That's what Drawing Lab is offering, with an exhibition by artists Florentine and Alexandre Larmarche-Ovize entitled Elisée, une biographie, from October 13, 2019 to January 9, 2020. The exhibition focuses on Elisée Reclus,"the libertarian geographer, the visionary writer, the anarchist traveler, the Communard pedagogue", through colorful and vibrant works, landscapes between the real and the imaginary, in which nature plays an important role.
The aim of this retrospective is"to reconstitute a concentrated landscape, reconciling the absolute and the fragment" through drawings, paintings, silkscreens and prints on ceramic, cork and felt seats. The whole is the result of a collaboration with designer Romain Guillet, with the aim of proposing an itinerary"like so many potential spaces and times of rest". More than a century after the death ofElisée Reclus, Florentine and Alexandre Lamarche-Ovize are attempting to construct"a prolific body of work that tends to constitute, fragment by fragment, a large and multiple world in which forms and styles cohabit in harmony".
As such, their exhibition is intended to be a truly immersive experience, reminiscent of thegeographer's "ultimate project" for the1900 Universal Exhibition, namely a terrestrial globe almost 200 metres in diameter, in which"the continents and oceans would have been reproduced on a scale of 1:100,000". An opportunity to discover a real character through the works of a colorful duo! Shall we go, folks?
