Do you know how coins are made in France? Come and find out by visiting the Monnaie de Paris, the institution that teaches us more about the history of silver and the minting of medals, in a place steeped in history.

La Monnaie de Paris is France's oldest monetary institution, and one of the world's oldest companies still in business. The public institution was founded in 864 by Charles II the Bald, with the mission of minting the country's currency. Today, the institute retains its industrial and commercial role, and is also involved in the production of foreign metal coins, medals, official decorations...

In Paris, the Monnaie de Paris is best known for its museum: 11 quai de Conti houses a museum for the general public, revealing the know-how and secrets behind the manufacture of coins. Coins, medals and antique tools are also on display, providing an insight into the history, art, economics, archaeology, science and technology of coinage and craftsmanship...

La Monnaie de Paris regularly organizes temporary exhibitions, as well as numerous workshops and events for young visitors.

How to get to the museum

La Monnaie de Paris is open every day except Monday, January 1, May 1 and December 25. Tickets cost between 12 and 8 euros, and are free for young people under 26 on the first Sunday of the month... And throughout August! A good deal just the way we like it. Note that your Navigo pass also entitles you to a discount.

Between exhibitions, the museum offers a boutique, a restaurant run by Michelin-starred chef Guy Savoy, and the BLOOM café, for lighter fare and weekend brunches.

Want to visit the Monnaie de Paris? The institution is accessible by public transport, via the Pont Neuf stop (line 7); Odéon (lines 4 and 10), Saint-Michel (line 4), Châtelet (RER A and B) and Saint-Michel Notre-Dame (RER B and C).
