The Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine honors art deco and cultural exchanges between France and North America through a new exhibition to be seen from October 20, 2022 to March 6, 2023.

This fashion will have lasted only twenty years in France, but it has left a lasting impression on Paris and the art world in general. The French Art Deco style has crossed the ages and the oceans, influencing fashion, architecture, design and decor, and the way of life of North American countries.

The Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine invites us to discover Art Deco France - North America, its new exhibition that highlights the links and artistic influences between the old and new continents during the 1930s.

Cultural exchanges between France, Canada and the United States are not new: as early as the 1880s, American and Canadian architects came to train at theEcole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Thanks to this training, North American cities quickly became adorned with Art Deco buildings and decorations in the French style. In France,Art Deco also had a profound influence on major French cities, including Paris.

This style quickly seduced painters, sculptors, ironworkers, muralists, jewelers, fashion designers and other artists and craftsmen, who contributed to the popularity of this movement between the two world wars. Closely linked to current events, the economy and politics, Art Deco lived, sparkled and died with the ups and downs of the early 20th century.
