Claude Monet is one of the best-known and most popular French painters. Considered one of the founders of Impressionism, this 19th-century artist left a lasting mark on the art world with his unique style, his masterpieces and his famous garden - which can still be visited today.
Claude Monet is a major figure in the art world, and a favorite of many. So the question quickly becomes: where can you admire his works in Paris?
Lovers of painting, rejoice: Paris museums are exhibiting many of Monet's paintings, including some of his best-known. How lucky we are! We don't need to cross oceans or continents, we can simply take the metro to admire the painter's great works.
So here we are, following in Claude Monet's footsteps in Paris. First and most obvious stop: the Musée de l'Orangerie! As you probably know, this museum, located in the Tuileries gardens, is home to eight monumental canvases: the Water Lilies. These are the painter's masterpieces, sublimated in rooms specially designed to admire and showcase them. To come face-to-face with these paintings is a unique experience, and one you must not miss!
The Musée de l'Orangerie also conserves and exhibits several of the master's paintings, which can be found in the museum's permanent collections.
In Paris, the museum with the most Monet paintings is the Musée d'Orsay. Dedicated to Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art, this temple to the arts boasts some 150 works by Claude Monet. Some of these are on display in the museum's permanent collections. These include Déjeuner sur l'herbe, Coquelicots, Femme à l'ombrelle, Etretat landscapes, Gare Saint-Lazare, Cathédrale de Rouen, the famous Meules... The list goes on, and includes some of the painter's best-known and most admired works.
We're now heading for Paris's 16th arrondissement. The Musée Marmottan Monet also has the privilege of exhibiting several works by Claude Monet. The museum's collections include the essential Impression, soleil levant, as well as several paintings and studies from Les Nymphéas, Le Train dans la neige, En promenade près d'Argenteuil, Le Pont de l'Europe, gare Saint-Lazare, Londres, le Parlement, reflets sur la Tamise...
