Opened in April 2018,Atelier des Lumières has quickly won over the hearts of Parisians... This digital art center, the first of its kind in the capital, is a unique immersive museum. With its sound and light exhibitions, the Atelier des Lumières lets us stroll through the works and worlds of great artists.
TheAtelier des Lumières is one of the Culturespaces art centers , and operates on the same principle as the Carrières des Lumières in Baux-de-Provence, the Bassin des Lumières in Bordeaux, the Hall des Lumières in New York... Visitors enter this large space, and let themselves be carried away by the magic of the paintings, which move and evolve all around us. On the floor, on the walls: over 3,000 sq. m., the works offer us an extraordinary spectacle, in rhythm with a playlist specially designed for each exhibition.
The Paris art center is located in the 11th arrondissement, in the heart of the Plichon family's former iron foundry. Founded in 1835 and renovated to house the museum, this is an atypical space, full of surprises. Several original elements have been preserved to highlight the history and soul of the place: a metal structure, a tall chimney, a basin, a cistern...
Speakers and video projectors add a new dimension to the works on display. We discover details we'd never seen before, a hidden history revealed by the Atelier des Lumières' staging... Each exhibition tells a story.
L'Atelier organizes different immersive programs each year: a major exhibition and a short program, centered around an artist, a genre... And several smaller exhibitions, often offered during the school vacations. Here, the themes are more varied: nature, science, documentaries, popular culture characters... Something for everyone.
The Atelier des Lumières is open every day. Exhibitions are shown continuously, so you can arrive in the middle of a projection and stay until the next one to see what you've missed. It is often necessary to reserve your ticket in advance, due to the large number of visitors. Ticket prices range from 16 to 11 euros.
Inside, you'll find luggage storage and a souvenir store. The Atelier des Lumières also houses a bar, called the Studio. Here, a contemporary creation is projected continuously, and you can enjoy sweet and savory snacks, as well as hot and cold soft drinks.
To get there, take metro line 9 (stop Voltaire, Saint-Ambroise), line 3 (rue Saint-Maur) or line 2 (Père Lachaise). You're all set for your next visit!
