When two unique artists meet...Institut Giacometti invites you to discover its new exhibition, entitled Giacometti/Cherri: Envisagement, from January 23 to March 24, 2024. The exhibition brings together the worlds of sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti and Lebanese visual artist and video artist Ali Cherri, in a celebration of the human face and its artistic interpretation. Visitors are invited to engage in a dialogue between past and present, tradition and innovation.
Alberto Giacometti, an emblematic figure of modern art, is renowned for his profound exploration of the human figure, particularly the face. This fascination is echoed in the work ofAli Cherri, who shares this interest in the representation of the human head. Theexhibition explores the concept of " envisioning ", playing on the duality of the term: the action of envisioning and the evocation of the face. This theme offers a new perspective on Giacometti's work, in which the human face is both a subject of ceaseless research and a constantly evolving realization.
Theexhibition's scenography, conceived as a travelling shot around an assembly of sculpted heads, is a tribute to cinema, reflecting the gaze of video artist Ali Cherri. Visitors will discover previously unseen creations byAli Cherri, created especially for this exhibition, in perfect harmony with a carefully chosen selection of Giacometti's paintings, sculptures and drawings.
A unique opportunity to discover the resonances between two major artists, while highlighting the importance of the human face as a vector of artistic expression.
