Little-known to Parisians, the Musée Jean-Jacques Henner houses a veritable treasure trove of art, bequeathed by the Alsatian painter's family, in a mansion that has always been a beacon for the arts.

The Musée Jean-Jacques Henner, located in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, has housed an exceptional collection of mainly portraits and landscapes since 1924. Before the Alsatian painter 's death, this hotel near Parc Monceau belonged to the painter Guillaume Dubufe, who made it his home and studio. It was in 1921 that Marie Henner, widow of Jean-Jacques' nephew, bought it to display her uncle's works, which she wished to bequeath to the State.

A special story, since the two painters knew each other, but were not intimate. Jean-Jacques Henner lived in Place Pigalle. Although the museum now preserves the Alsatian painter's legacy, it was awarded the "Maisons des Illustres" label for Guillaume Dubufe! The museum has developed an artist residency with Les Beaux-Arts de Paris, to showcase new artists.

The museographical tour allows visitors to discover theevolution of Henner'sartistic style, imbued with romanticism and symbolism. The architecture of the museum itself, with its elegant salons and luminous spaces, contributes to creating an atmosphere that highlights the artist's work, as well as furniture and objects belonging to him, such as his painting equipment and his academician's costume.

Temporary exhibitions enrich the program, shedding light on other aspects of art history or presenting contemporary artists. Educational workshops and guided tours help to raise public awareness of the Alsatian artist's art and life, as do yoga classes, which allow visitors to immerse themselves in the creative energy of the site.

The museum is open every day except Tuesday from 11am to 6pm, but you can enjoy a nocturne until 9pm on the second Thursday of every month. To visit the museum with peace of mind, book your tickets in advance: the full price is 8 euros, but is free on the first Sunday of every month and for under-26s. There's also a twin ticket available if you want to visit the Gustave Moreau museum on the same day.

To get to the museum, take line 3 to the Malesherbes or Wagram stations.
