Not far from the Eiffel Tower and Trocadero is another Paris landmark: the Passy Cemetery. With its monumental Art Deco gate, it's impossible to miss!
Located in the 16th arrondissement, Quartier de la Muette, this small, densely-populated cemetery is the final resting place of some of the greatest names in aristocracy, finance, industry and politics, as well as eminent artists, including composer Claude Debussy, writers Maurice Genevoix, Jean Giraudoux and Octave Mirbeau, fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy, actor Fernandel and painter Edouard Manet.
The Cimetière de Passy enjoys a most advantageous location, bordering the Jardins du Trocadéro. Our beloved Eiffel Tower can even be seen on the opposite bank of the Seine, through the many chestnut trees!
For the record, the Cimetière de Passy started out as a small, unassuming cemetery, but by 1874 it had welcomed the cream of the Parisian crop, transforming itself into the 2,600-tomb cemetery we know today.
So if you're looking for a little peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of the Trocadéro, a stroll through the Cimetière de Passy will do you a world of good!
