You're no doubt familiar with Hector Guimard, for his incredible contribution to Parisian architecture! He designed the aediculae above the Paris metro! A great French architect, he is the leading exponent ofArt Nouveau in France, best known for his exceptional decoration of the Castel Béranger in Paris's 16th arrondissement.
While many of his creations have not survived the decades, some well-hidden ones hold surprises in store for you. His Hublotière or Villa Berthe, located in Le Vésinet, and dating from 1896, will exceptionally open its doors to you this summer 2024, for just a few euros.
We advise you to take advantage of this opportunity, as the villa is privately owned and still inhabited, so its very affordable opening is not common! Visit us from July 1 to August 1, 2024, every day of the week, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well as from September 6 to 8, 13 to 15, and 21 and 22.
Apart from the gardens, which were opened to the public in summer in the 2000s, inside you can admire the decorated ceilings and staircase, which have been listed since 1979, as well as the facades. This is one of the architect's only buildings open to the public.
This first Art Nouveau villa in the"Guimard style" was built and decorated under the architect's orders, commissioned by Mr. Noguès, a wealthy man. The highly symmetrical main facade is impressive, with increasingly smaller windows on each floor.
If the villa is nicknamed the Hublotière, it's because of its astonishing porthole-shaped window wells! Like the Castel, the Ville Berthe is steeped in Guimard's encounter with Belgian Art Nouveau architect Victor Horta, with its many arabesques and light, airy spaces. Not to be missed!
